Do you know who Tux is? This is the penguin, which is the official symbol of Linux – the free and open source operating system. The penguin has become a symbol of all free and open source software applications.
This Saturday and Sunday we had a TuxCon conference dedicated to free and open source software for mobile, embedded and wearable devices. Speakers, specialists in various fields shared their experience and vision regarding technologies.
I led one of the lectures, and the topic was “Mobile applications that communicate”. I shared the experience we gained during our transition from desktop applications to mobile. Our main product Brosix started as a communication application for Windows, then we added Mac and Linux – all desktop operating systems. When we decided to add mobile Android and iOS, we encountered a new world where the old principles and ways of working do not work as we expect. Later we made another mobile application that communicates – GuestVista. In the thirty minutes that I was given, I tried to share all our experience and give guidelines for colleagues to work in when designing and building their mobile applications that communicate.

The conference was very interesting with topics that touch on important areas of the world of mobile and embedded devices. I met people from different cities of the country, Greece and Turkey, we exchanged ideas or just communicated. On Sunday we had a practical part, in which the participants had the opportunity to touch the world of embedded devices. It was a day dedicated to hardware.
I thank the organizers for the perfect organization and I hope that soon there will be new editions that will promote good practices in the development of applications for mobile devices, embedded devices and the new, gaining popularity wearable devices.
